We are well aware that we cannot yet be completely sustainable, but this motivates us even more to come noticeably closer to this goal through new processes and technology.
With our extensive renovation in summer 2022, we had the unique opportunity not only to concentrate the entire production of our delicious Baumkuchen in one place, but also to modernize our machines with new "state of the art" technology.
With the help of our new technology and a variety of (obvious) improvements such as switching to complete LED lighting, we have been able to noticeably improve our energy efficiency.
Baumkuchen with solar power
The production of Baumkuchen is a very energy-intensive affair and results in a correspondingly considerable electricity bill every year.
With our small factory, we produce our popular Baumkuchen directly from Cottbus' old town. Cottbus itself is one of the sunniest cities in Germany, so it was obvious for us to use this advantage to our advantage.
Since the beginning of 2022, we have equipped the roof of our Baumkuchen factory with large areas of solar cells, which actively support us in baking our Baumkuchen.
Reduction of plastic
Since our Baumkuchen are food products, safe and hygienic packaging is very important to us. Our Baumkuchen are currently still packaged in plastic film and we are well aware that this cannot be a permanent solution. We have already started looking for alternatives in order to gradually reduce our plastic content.
In addition to switching our shipping materials to almost exclusively recycled and biodegradable filling materials, we are in close contact with our suppliers to also switch our remaining plastic packaging to recyclable materials.
Climate-friendly shipping
Online shopping creates CO2 emissions and keeping these low is another of our goals.
When shipping our Baumkuchen nationally and worldwide, we rely exclusively on the services of DHL GoGreen. This enables us, together with our customers, to make our contribution to compensating for and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants and the associated impact on the environment.
